Kiwanis Clubs on Cape Cod, Division 13 in the New England & Bermuda District of Kiwanis, together with several High School Key Clubs, and a youth group from an Osterville church are participating in a service project, The Outreach Program. The Outreach Program offers a unique way to fight hunger. The core capability will be facilitating a food packaging event at the K.C. Coombs school on March 28, 2025 where the volunteers work in an assembly-line fashion, packaging simple nutritious meals all using health and food safety guidelines. Food security is a federal measure of a household’s ability to provide enough food for every person in the household to have an active, healthy life. It’s the state of being without reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. Food insecurity isn’t just a term used for foreign nations, it’s a term that applies to many in the USA.

Good nutrition, particularly in the first few years of life, is important in establishing and maintaining a good foundation that can impact a child’s future physical and mental health, academic achievement, and economic productivity. Unfortunately, food insecurity and hunger are obstacles that threaten that critical foundation in the United States and around the world. The Outreach Programs’ nutritious food packages reverse the starvation process, help restore health, and improve a child’s mental and physical alertness. Each package provides six nutritionally complete servings. The team at The Outreach Program, in association with internationally recognized nutritionists and the Food Science Department at Iowa State University, developed a food formula comprised of rice, fortified soy protein, vegetables, and essential vitamins and minerals. They are simple to prepare with written and pictorial instructions on each package. Each sealed package has a shelf life of two years. The Outreach Program offers a unique way to fight hunger. Our core capability is facilitating food packaging events across the nation where hundreds to thousands of volunteers come to serve in an assembly-line fashion, packaging simple nutritious meals all using health and food safety guidelines. Ninety five percent of the food stays in the USA and is distributed to the people in need through food banks, centers for disbursement to those needing food, other non-profits, and churches.
